Fourteen hours of block time, one crew change, and a narrow band of preferred routings over the Urals or the polar track depending on winter jetstream and current overflight clearances. London to Tokyo is not a city pair you improvise. Russian airspace remains closed to most Western-registered aircraft, which pushes long-range equipment onto southern corridors through Turkey, Central Asia, and the Chinese FIRs, or over Anchorage on the Pacific routing when tailwinds and tech-stop economics favour it. Gulfstream G650ER, Global 7500, and Falcon 8X are the realistic shortlist. Anything smaller is a tech stop in Novosibirsk, Almaty, or Anchorage, and tech stops on this sector are not a detail, they are the trip.

Farnborough is the default London departure for this mission, with Luton as the fallback when slots or hangar positioning dictate. Biggin Hill works for south London clients but adds a ferry if the aircraft is already cold at TAG Farnborough. Tokyo arrivals split between Haneda (RJTT) and Narita (RJAA). Haneda is the closer field and the one clients want, but it operates on a slot system administered by MLIT, with business aviation slots tightly rationed and a de facto curfew on general aviation movements between 2300 and 0600 local. Narita absorbs the overflow, runs 24 hours for business aviation with prior coordination, and adds roughly an hour of ground transfer into central Tokyo. Customs and immigration at both fields are handled through the FBO, Universal Aviation or Jet Aviation in most cases, and Japanese CIQ expects APIS data and crew documentation submitted well in advance of arrival.

Positioning is the variable that tends to surprise clients. If the aircraft is not already in Europe, a one-way quote carries a ferry leg from its home base, and on return the operator will either deadhead back or sit on the ground in Japan accruing hangarage at Haneda or Narita, both of which are expensive and limited. We quote the full rotation honestly, including overflight permits, fuel stops if the airframe requires them, and the crew rest regulations that govern whether this sector flies in a single duty period or requires an augmented crew.
