Galeão (SBGL) handles the long-haul arrivals into Rio, and it remains the practical choice for transatlantic and North American sectors that need full customs and immigration on the field rather than a handoff elsewhere. Crews favor it for the longer runway and the predictable Federal Police processing, though the drive into Leblon or Ipanema runs forty minutes in light traffic and considerably more on a summer Friday. For closer-in access, Jacarepaguá (SBJR) sits nearer the Barra and Zona Sul addresses, but its runway length rules out most heavy metal and the apron fills quickly during Carnival and the Grand Prix weeks.

Positioning is the variable that decides most Rio itineraries. There is limited based-aircraft availability locally, so a midsize or large-cabin jet is often flown in empty from São Paulo, Brasília, or further afield, and that ferry leg belongs in the quote rather than buried in it. Brazilian customs clearance for a foreign-registered aircraft takes planning, and a same-day turn that lands internationally and departs again wants its slot and handler confirmed in advance.
