Mykonos and Santorini are served by their own island airports, LGMK and LGSR respectively, with runway lengths and parking capacity suited to aircraft up to heavy-class. Ultra-long-range metal typically routes into Athens (LGAV) with a helicopter or short-sector connection onward; the same logic applies to BBJ and ACJ traffic. The island airfields are weather-sensitive with Meltemi winds in July and August frequently reducing landing capacity on LGMK for several hours at a stretch; the contingency procedure is a diversion to Athens with onward rotorcraft transfer. Parking slots on both island airfields are pre-booked against confirmed arrival and departure windows. Peak traffic falls across the first half of August and the week of the Full Moon in August.
